I don’t know a lot about Search Enging Optimization, or SEO, or SEM, if you want to get technical. I know how to use keywords and the basic wordpress tag functions. I know that the labels given to pictures are important, as well as post names and the post slug.
Most of what I have learned has come from some of the best SEO websites on the web. There are a lot of SEO websites out there, but there are only a handful of really good ones. I know there are a lot of writers looking to learn more about Search Engine Optimization; hopefully some of these links are helpful to you, too. Bonus? These sites are all free, or at least have enough free material to make them worth our time.
SEOmoz- Lots of information. Free tools. I could spend days on this site, and still have more to read. They have a paid membership option, but they also offer a lot of stuff for free. One of my favorite places on the web for search engine optimization material.
SEO-Theory- A blog dedicated to how SEO works. Lots of great stuff here.
Search Engine Watch- A whole lot of great, free information.
SEO Chat- This site has a lot of free articles. But what it really shines in is the selection for free tools. Including the Keyword Difficulty Check tool, letting you know how difficult it will be to rank in your selected keywords. Freelance Writing as a keyword, by the way, is only 62.72% difficult. Not too bad.
Bruce Clay- the Blog- The home of Virginia Nussey. Absolutely fantastic posts, and all very helpful. There have been a lot of posts lately about Search Engine conferences. Which is good, because most of us writers can’t afford to go. So instead, we let other bloggers pay, and then share the important stuff with all of us. For free. (Which is how we like it.)
Outspoken Media Blog- The new home of Lisa Barone. Lots of SEO conference coverage, and lots of other fantastic SEO information. I was one of the first five followers of this blog when it first started, and I love the personality that Lisa puts into her posts.
While I admittedly don’t spend anywhere near the amount of time I would like to every week working on learning SEO, these are the places I visit when I get a few spare minutes. I am subscribed to both the Bruce Clay and Outspoken Media blogs, but I am always looking for new places to check out. Where do you go for SEO education?
